Premier Sponsor: UPMC.
Special thanks to UPMC for taking a giant leap with us and signing on once again as one of this year’s Premier Sponsors. Their support has made it possible for us to welcome one of our exciting keynote speakers to our virtual stage. Get to know UPMC and what they’re doing to support the nonprofit sector in fostering healthy communities.
UPMC Health Plan, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is among the nation’s fastest-growing health plans. It is owned by UPMC, a world-renowned health care provider. As part of an integrated health care delivery system, UPMC Health Plan is committed to providing its members better health, more financial security, and the peace of mind they deserve. UPMC Health Plan partners with UPMC and community network providers to produce a combination of knowledge and expertise that provides the highest quality care at the most affordable price.
The UPMC Insurance Services Division—which includes UPMC Health Plan, Workpartners, UPMC for Life, UPMC for You, UPMC for Kids, UPMC Community HealthChoices, and Community Care Behavioral Health—offers a full range of group health insurance, Medicare, Special Needs, CHIP, Medical Assistance, behavioral health, employee assistance, and workers’ compensation products and services to more than 3.9 million members. Our local provider network includes UPMC as well as community providers, totaling more than 140 hospitals and more than 29,000 physicians throughout Pennsylvania and parts of Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland.
In 2020, UPMC and UPMC Health Plan provided $1.7 billion in IRS-defined community benefits, including more than 3,000 community programs, charity and other costs of care for those in need, and support for research and education. In partnership with a wide range of community organizations, they are actively working to improve the health of our communities by providing outstanding patient care and addressing the most pressing health needs of their neighbors.
UPMC serves as a powerful engine of progress and growth that helps to strengthen PA’s economy, contributing nearly half of all hospital-funded research in the entire state and setting up future health care leaders for success through their hospitals and academic medical centers.
UPMC Health Plan believes it’s just as important to lead with integrity as it is to offer high-quality, personalized health insurance products and services. So how do they show it? By supporting programs that combat hunger, collaborating with local leaders to make positive changes in their communities, creating targeted interventions to improve the health of families, reducing their company’s carbon footprint, and building a stronger workforce for the future.
UPMC Center for Social Impact.
Recognizing that social and economic conditions – things like housing, food security, employment, and education – are increasingly recognized as an important driver of health care costs, UPMC is proudly expanding the traditional definitions of health care.
UPMC Health Plan is already leading the industry in transforming care delivery and the health care ecosystem through innovation, with their commitment to social initiatives going back at least a decade. The Center for Social Impact focuses on three key domains: addressing social needs, coordinating and expanding access to benefits, and supporting underserved communities. Activities pursued by the Center may include housing, employment and workforce training, improved service coordination with local government, rural health care, and addressing the unique needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or the LGBTQI+ populations UPMC Health Plan serves.
Pathways to Work.
As referenced above, UPMC Health Plan is already hard at work addressing the social determinant of employment with their Pathways to Work program. This is available to all UPMC for You members with a goal of connecting people with training programs and other resources to help them find a position at UPMC or elsewhere.
