Meet the Facilitators & Speakers.

Sharon Alexander, CAP, CFRE (She/Her/Hers) | President/CEO, Carbon County Community Foundation

Sharon L. Alexander, CAP®, CFRE, is the President & CEO of the Carbon County Community Foundation, a position she has held since April, 2020.  The Carbon County Community Foundation, established in 2015 and located in Northeast PA between the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos, has assets of $2.5M with annual grantmaking of approximately $350,000.

Sharon has nearly 20 years of professional experience working in nonprofits and fundraising.  Previously, she worked in the Development Offices at the Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown, PA, and Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley in Nazareth, PA.

Sharon is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professional (AFP) Eastern PA Chapter and served on the chapter’s Board of Directors from 2012-2023 and was Chapter President from 2020-2022.  She is a member of the Rotary Club of Jim Thorpe and has served as Club Co-President since June, 2025.  She has been a volunteer librarian with the Panther Valley Public Library since 2014.

Sharon holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA, with a double major in Digital Communications and English.  She earned accreditation as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) in 2015 and completed the Certificate of Nonprofit Management Program at The Nonprofit Center at LaSalle University in 2020.  Sharon was awarded the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) designation from the American College of Financial Services in 2023.

Jessica Aviva, Ph.D., FRSA (She/Her/Hers) | Founding Director, The Fruition Coalition

Jessica Aviva, Ph.D., FRSA is a nonprofit leader, educator, and facilitator with nearly 30 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She is the Founding Director of The Fruition Coalition and has led organizational work focused on community development, leadership, and employee wellbeing. Jessica holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership and taught in university business programs for 14 years. Her work centers on cultivating sustainable, joy-forward approaches to nonprofit practice that challenge burnout culture and strengthen collective care. She is the creator of Nonprofit Hedonists, Legends from the Nonprofit Crypt, and Garden Party for a Flourishing World.

Dr. Hasshan Batts is an internationally recognized community epidemiologist, tri-sector systems leader, social worker, and community health journalist whose work sits at the intersection of public health, justice, philanthropy, behavioral health, economic mobility, and public narrative. A Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Leader and Fulbright Specialist alumnus, he serves as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Preventive Measures Foundation, Founder of the Prison Survivors Network, and Co-Founder of the Watson-Batts School of Construction.
Through Radical Welcome, lived experience, cross-sector partnerships, and systems change, Dr. Batts helps organizations and communities transform the conditions that shape health, safety, opportunity, and quality of life.

Signe Bell (She/Her/Hers) | Director of Nonprofit and Community Programs, University of Delaware Center for Community Research and Service

Signe Bell is Director of Nonprofit Programs and a Policy Scientist with the Center for Community Research & Service in the Biden School of Public Policy & Administration at the University of Delaware. With more than 25 years of experience working with nonprofits and community organizations, she specializes in nonprofit leadership, governance, group facilitation, strategic planning, and organizational capacity building. A Licensed Standards for Excellence® Consultant and BoardSource Certified Governance Consultant, she directs the Nonprofit Leadership Certificate and Nonprofit Management Essentials programs. Signe holds a B.S. in Human Services and an M.P.A. with a specialization in Nonprofit Leadership.

Marivi Bryant (She/Her/Hers) | Founder & President, HOME Agency

Marivi Bryant is the Founder and President of HOME Agency, a people first marketing and branding firm partnering with mission driven organizations and national brands across the country. With nearly 25 years of experience spanning the Phoenix Suns, NASCAR Foundation, State Farm, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and more, she built HOME on the belief that purposeful, human centered marketing drives meaningful impact.
Originally from Venezuela, Marivi came to the United States at 13 to pursue tennis, earning a Division I scholarship and developing the resilience and discipline that shape her leadership today. She is a passionate arts and community advocate, currently serving on the boards of Slow Burn Theatre Company and Old Town Playhouse, with past leadership roles at the Blumenthal Center for the Performing Arts, Levine Museum of the New South, Arena Stage, and The Salvation Army of South Florida.
In 2025, she launched the Values in Action Award, a $100,000 pro bono initiative supporting nonprofits through strategic marketing and storytelling. The inaugural recipient was StoryCorps, recognized for its enduring commitment to preserving and sharing human stories. Marivi lives in Michigan with her husband, Mathew, and their children, Logan, and Lyla.

Dr. Ivy Buchan, AFP Master Trainer, is a nonprofit strategist who has spent more than two decades helping organizations through Board Governance, Fundraising, Strategic Planning, Training & Coaching, Collaborations & Mergers, Foundations, and Evaluation Methods. She brings frontline experience, a PhD and credentials focused on nonprofit leadership and collaboration, and award-winning community involvement to every engagement, while offering practical tools. Ivy is also a Licensed Consultant at the state and national levels.

Vinny Cannizzaro (He/Him/His) | Executive Director, Pennsylvania Economy League

Vinny Cannizzaro is Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Economy League, where he leads statewide research and technical assistance initiatives focused on local government finance, economic development, and community resilience. His work focuses on helping municipalities and regional partners use evidence‑based policy analysis and applied research to address complex public challenges.

Prior to joining the Pennsylvania Economy League, Vinny served as the founding director of the Arthur J. Glatfelter Institute for Public Policy and the Master of Public Policy and Administration program at York College of Pennsylvania. He holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Jessica Chappell, MA (She/Her/Hers) | Executive Director, Safe Harbor of Chester County

I am a mission-driven nonprofit leader with over 28 years of experience serving vulnerable and marginalized populations across Pennsylvania. As Executive Director of Safe Harbor, Chester County’s largest homeless shelter, I lead strategic growth, trauma-informed programming, and community partnerships that promote stability, dignity, and long-term success. My expertise spans homelessness, mental health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and systems change. Known for collaborative leadership, operational excellence, and innovative problem-solving, I am committed to building sustainable solutions that strengthen organizations, empower teams, and improve outcomes for individuals experiencing housing insecurity and other complex life challenges.

Morgen Cheshire, Esq. (She/Her/Hers) | Founder & Managing Attorney, Cheshire Law Group

Cat Cook (She/Her/They) | Executive Director, Centre LGBT+

Cat Cook, she/her, is the Executive Director of Centre LGBT+, where they lead efforts to create a more affirming, and connected community for LGBT+ individuals and families across Central Pennsylvania. A passionate advocate for inclusion, equity, and visibility, Cat has helped expand community programming, strengthen partnerships, and increase access to supportive resources for people of all ages.
With a strong commitment to grassroots organizing and community building, Cat works to foster spaces where people can show up authentically and feel a true sense of belonging. Their leadership focuses on education, advocacy, and creating meaningful opportunities for connection and empowerment. Through collaborative initiative and community engagement, Cat continues to champion the importance of acceptance, representation, and collective care within both LGBT+ spaces and the broader community.

Marcia Deppen (She/Her/Hers) | Interim Director of Homeland Security, Office of the Governor for the State of Maryland

Marcia Deppen has been working in Homeland Security and Emergency Management since 1999.  Positions include planner for the New Castle County Office of Emergency Management, Director of Emergency Services with the American Red Cross Delmarva Region, Emergency Manager at the University of Delaware, and Director of Consequence Management for the Maryland Department of Emergency Management.

Currently, she serves as Maryland’s Interim Director of Homeland Security. 

Ms. Deppen has a Master’s degree in Sociology and Disaster Studies from the University of Delaware and is currently enrolled in the Masters of Homeland Security program at the Naval Post Graduate School.

Beth Dougherty, Esq. (She/Her/Hers) | Director of Legal Education Initiatives, Cheshire Law Group

Beth has advised a wide range of nonprofit organizations on all aspects of their activities, including formation and tax-exempt status, board governance, federal and state laws and regulatory compliance, mergers, affiliations, and fundraising compliance. She has also served on the boards of grassroots nonprofit organizations and worked directly in the nonprofit sector, supporting public education initiatives through the City of Philadelphia’s Community Schools Program and child health as a Project Coordinator at Children First.

An active volunteer in her community, Beth has been involved with the East Passyunk Crossing Civic Association since 2008. She is a firm believer in the power of community-based nonprofits and their ability to make a difference and effect change in the communities they serve.

Anne Gingerich, MSW (She/Her/Hers) | Executive Director, PANO

Since starting her role as Executive Director in late 2013, Anne has grown PANO’s programming and presence in the Commonwealth – offering training, consulting services, and Help Desk (askPANO) support to address all things needed for strong nonprofit governance and management.  She has further deepened nonprofit advocacy engagement by linking arms with other statewide advocacy organizations and the National Council of Nonprofits. With the support of PANO’s lobbyist, PANO has become a known name at the state capitol, and by members of Pennsylvania’s congressional delegation.

Anne takes a systems approach to all of her work, engaging multiple individuals and groups to identify and implement collaborative solutions to community problems. She holds a firm vision that if all 807,000 individuals working for the 50,000 Pennsylvania nonprofits can link arms in a cohesive advocacy strategy, we can change the way our government supports and engages with those most vulnerable.

Anne earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work at Millersville University and earned her Master of Social Work at Marywood University. Anne shares her Lancaster County Victorian home with her two cats, Steven and Stella, and enjoys cooking, Rails-to-Trails biking, reading, and good coffee.

Maddy Gitomer, Esq. (She/Her/Hers) | Senior Counsel, Democracy Forward

Maddy Gitomer is Senior Counsel at Democracy Forward, where she has represented non-profits and individuals in both litigation and regulatory advocacy.  Maddy’s work spans issue areas, and her career has focused on issues related to education, health, civil rights, privacy  and administrative law.  She has brought suits focused on fighting for teachers, students, and academic freedom, and she has challenged federal attempts to weaken discrimination laws, privacy protections, and research funding. 

Before joining Democracy Forward, Maddy was a member of the Privacy and Cybersecurity practice at Hogan Lovells in Washington, D.C., where she focused on health privacy law, including regulatory counseling. Maddy also maintained a robust pro bono practice focused on protecting reproductive rights, defending against LGBTQ+ discrimination, and expanding access to health care. Earlier in her career, Maddy served as one of Senator Dodd’s professional staff members on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee’s Subcommittee on Children and Families. There she helped pass the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act and served as Chairman Dodd’s lead education policy staff member in the negotiation of The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act.

Maddy holds a J.D. from The University of Pennsylvania Law School, a master’s degree in education policy from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, and a B.A. from American University. While in law school, Maddy received the Edward C. Baker Award for the student with the most pro bono hours in her graduating class and the Penn Law Pro Bono Award for her leadership of the Custody and Support Assistance Clinic. Maddy was also named one of the Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40 by the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association.

Maddy is a member of the New Jersey, Maryland, and District of Columbia Bars.

Larry Green (He/Him/His) | Principal, LG Fundfinder Consulting, LLC

Lawrence H. Green (Larry) is the Principal of LG Fundfinder Consulting, LLC., which offers strategic and creative support in core areas including coaching, external relations, fundraising, messaging, branding, writing, and grants.

Mr. Green is an Advancement Professional with 40+ years of experience working for both mission-based nonprofits as well as institutions of higher education.  Larry works part-time for the Botstiber Institute for Wildlife Fertility Control, where he plans and executes their external relations, grantmaking and fundraising.  He is Immediate Past President of the Board of Animal Grantmakers, a national affinity group of funders devoted to animal protection and welfare.

Larry is a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations’ Consultant Collaborative, where he has worked with member non-profits to engage in corporate and foundation relations as well as to build relationship networks.  In addition to consulting, he serves as an advisor to The New 3Rs, a nonprofit that educates and empowers youth through the aRt of social justice storytelling, building Relationships, and fostering a sense of Responsibility; and to Haddon Heights Good Neighbors, a community-based non-profit.  Larry also serves on the Board of Community Interactions, Inc., which offers disability and autism care, assisted living and activities in communities in Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Larry is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University with a B.A. in Speech Communications and also holds an M.S. in TV-Radio from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Kiersten Hill (She/Her/Hers) | Director of Nonprofit Solutions, Firespring

Meet Kiersten Hill, the driving force behind Firespring’s nonprofit solutions and an inspiration to organizations nationwide. With nearly two decades of dedicated service in nonprofit management and fundraising, she has raised over $20 million to strengthen Nebraska’s nonprofit sector.

At Firespring, Kiersten enables organizations, their leaders and boards of directors to achieve their mission through education and empowerment. A dynamic thought leader and speaker, she captivates audiences with her expertise on marketing, fundraising, board development and organizational transformation. As a certified StoryBrand Guide, Kiersten has unlocked the power of storytelling, guiding nonprofits to craft compelling narratives that resonate deeply with their audiences. In the past year alone, she has presented with energy, authenticity and relatability at nearly 100 webinars and nonprofit conferences—her insights sparking inspiration and change.

Steve Jacob (He/Him/His) | Director of Research Initiatives, Pennsylvania Economy League

Steve Jacob is an applied social scientist whose work focuses on community well‑being, place‑based development, and the use of social indicators to inform public policy and planning. For more than 25 years he has conducted research on how economic structures, natural resources, and social infrastructure shape the long‑term vitality of communities.

Currently, Steve is PEL’s Director of Research Initiatives, with the Pennsylvania Economy League and the lead researcher and dashboard designer of the Keystone Index, a statewide initiative designed to measure livability, economic resilience, and environmental context using publicly available data. Steve holds a Ph.D. in Rural Sociology from the Penn State University.

T.J. Jourian (He/Him/His) | Principal Consultant and Trainer, Think Again Training & Consulting

T.J. Jourian (he/him) is a Philadelphia-based lead consultant and trainer with Think Again Training & Consulting. He brings almost 25 years of experience in social justice advocacy and education, as well as over 10 years of equity-focused research and assessment. T.J. has worked with hundreds of mission-driven organizations, institutions, and communities. His practice, advocacy, and scholarship center trans and queer BIPOC experiences and worldviews. T.J. has a PhD in Higher Education from Loyola University Chicago where he studied how trans masculine college students define masculinity.

Anna Keilly (She/Her/Hers) | Senior Manager of Policy & Advocacy, PANO
Session: The Role of Nonprofits as Civic Spaces – and Civic Actors (Learning Session, Thursday, 9/24, 3:40-4:55 pm)

Anna Keilly joined the PANO team in January 2026 as the Senior Manager of Policy and Advocacy at the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO), where she leads the organization’s state and federal policy strategy and advocacy efforts to strengthen the nonprofit sector across the Commonwealth.

Most recently, Anna spent over four years in the U.S. Senate, serving in the offices of Senators John Fetterman and Bob Casey. As a Legislative Assistant in Senator Fetterman’s office, she led the health and education policy portfolio, translating constituent and stakeholder priorities into legislative strategy. Her time on Capitol Hill gives her a strong understanding of how policy priorities and decisions are made — and how they directly affect communities and non-profit organizations across Pennsylvania.

Coming from a long line of public servants, Anna is guided by a commitment to community. She brings a systems-oriented approach to advocacy, grounded in the belief that lasting solutions are built through a blend of grassroots engagement, coalition building, strategic messaging, and meaningful collaboration.

Anna earned her Master of Public Administration and a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Legal, Economics and Government (CLEG) from American University. While in college, Anna interned with state Representative Mike Sturla’s office, supporting constituent relations and volunteered with several national campaigns.

After eight years in Washington, D.C., Anna returned home to Pennsylvania and now lives in Philadelphia, close to family and friends. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, long walks, and live music. She grew up attending and later working at an overnight camp in the Pocono Mountains, where her love of working with kids and being outdoors helped shape who she is today.

Anna looks forward to serving as a passionate champion of and technical resource to Pennsylvania’s nonprofit community.

Kelly Kostanesky (She/Her/Hers) | Founder of KMMK Communications, KMMK Communications

Kelly Kostanesky is the founder of KMMK Communications, where she helps nonprofit organizations raise sustainable funding using a comprehensive suite of relationship-focused strategic planning, communications and development services.

Drawing on 25 years of experience in the communications industry, she provides hands-on assistance to help nonprofit organizations that need an extra hand doing some marketing tasks but are unable to hire a full-time employee.

She combines a marketer’s strategy with a storyteller’s voice, and helps busy nonprofit leaders who are wearing multiple hats still find ways to connect with their donors.

Corinna Krauskopf (She/Her/Hers) | Founder and CEO, Fearless Philanthropi, AFP Advancement

Corinna Krauskopf has spent more than two decades asking: Why does fundraising feel so unpredictable and what would it take to fix that?

Her clients have raised more than $250 million across the U.S. and Canada.

Her recent sessions at AFP LEAD and Advancement NW filled past capacity, with attendees describing the experience as “the conversation our leadership team has been waiting to have”.

Andrea Lowe, DrPH, MPH, CPH (She/Her/Hers) | Partner + Collaborator, Social Impact Studio Consulting

Dr. Lowe owns and operates the Social Impact Studio Consulting where she partners with health and human services agencies to build equitable policies, practices, and strategies at the local, state, and national level. Prior to starting her business in 2022, she spent 13 years supporting policy, advocacy, and strategic initiatives for local, state, and national governments, non-profits, and private sector entities. Dr. Lowe holds a master of public health (MPH) degree from University of South Florida and a doctorate in public health (DrPH) in health policy and leadership. In her free time, she loves to read, play outdoors, and spend time with her friends and family.

Cortney Marengo (She/Her/Hers) | President, Jaybird Foundation
Session: Rooted in History, Rising Through Partnership: Adaptive Reuse as Community Development (Learning Session, Friday, 9/25, 9:30-10:45 am)

Cortney Marengo is the Director of Community Outreach at Laurel House and President of the Jaybird Foundation, a nonprofit focused on adaptive reuse, historic preservation, and community revitalization in Montgomery County, PA. With more than 15 years of experience in program management, municipal collaboration, and community engagement, she has worked across nonprofit, government, and community sectors to build partnerships and develop impactful programs and initiatives.
Cortney has worked with organizations including Skippack Township, Towamencin Township, and the Skippack Historical Society, where she helped oversee the restoration of the historic Indenhofen Farmstead and managed a Keystone Historic Preservation Grant. Through the Jaybird Foundation, she is currently leading collaborative preservation and adaptive reuse efforts tied to the historic Casselberry Property within the Evansburg Historic District.

LuAnn Oatman serves as President and CEO of Berks Encore, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping older adults live with independence, dignity, connection, and purpose. Tim Sarrantonio is the Founder of The Generosity Spectrum and the creator of The Generosity Roundtable, the nonprofit sector’s first role-playing game designed to help organizations practice decision-making together. He has spent nearly fifteen years working at the intersection of generosity, technology, and nonprofit practice, supporting organizations as they navigate participation, trust, and change.
Tim currently serves as Chair of the Fundraising Effectiveness Project, where he helps translate national fundraising data into practical insight for nonprofit leaders, and is a workgroup member of the Aspen Institute’s Alliance for Social Trust. His work has been featured at conferences including AFP ICON, the Nonprofit Technology Conference, and TEDx. Her expertise bridges mission and finance, helping organizations strengthen their infrastructure, enhance transparency, and reduce compliance risk while building internal capacity.

Dayna’s dual roles as both a systems innovator and strategic advisor give her a unique perspective on the intersection of technology, compliance, and capacity building in the nonprofit sector. Melissa Sines is a dynamic leader and strategist and one of the co-founders of Colmena Consulting. Melissa brings deep expertise to her work with public sector organizations, focusing on building collective vision, nurturing emergent strategy, and developing and holding meaningful spaces for building community, learning together, and supporting leadership at all levels for nonprofit and philanthropy boards of directors, executive leadership, and program and operations staff.

Prior to co-founding Colmena Consulting, Melissa worked as the Programs and Knowledge Director at PEAK Grantmaking, where she was the chief architect and author of their learning strategy and programming centered around operationalizing equitable grantmaking practices. Ahead of joining PEAK, she was the Director of Education & Accreditation at Maryland Nonprofits and the Standards for Excellence Institute. Before her time as a nonprofit employee and while pursuing her MPA, Melissa was a consultant that supported leaders at nonprofit and funding institutions to develop strategy and improve their boards, management, and structures. Throughout her career and her work as a volunteer and organizer in her own community, she has touched every part of nonprofit governance and management structure and processes: as a founder, as a funder, as a board member, a committee member, a programs professional, an event planner, an operations and financial professional, a database administrator, a fundraiser, and a volunteer manager.

Through MW Strategies, Michele serves as a fractional fundraising partner and development consultant for U.S.-based nonprofits with annual budgets of $250,000 to $5,000,000 and 0-10 staff, bringing senior-level fundraising leadership without the cost of a full-time hire.

Michele also guides organizations through leadership transitions and periods of change, helping nonprofits stabilize operations, maintain donor relationships, and build toward what comes next. Her services span major gifts, annual campaigns, grant writing, and transition assistance, grounded in the belief that strong relationships and clear strategy drive lasting results. She works closely with executive directors and boards to develop data-driven strategies and donor communications that support long-term sustainability.

In addition to her consulting work, Michele serves on the board of the Association of Consultants to Nonprofits. This, along with several past board roles, allows her to contribute to the broader development of the sector and stay current on nonprofit trends and practices.

A New York City native, Michele has proudly called Philadelphia home since 1999. She holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Delaware and a Master of Science in Arts Administration from Drexel University. Roshawnda ‘Ro’ Washington, MSW is the Director of Partnership & Operations at The Nonprofit Center, where she builds strategic alliances that drive meaningful community impact. With certificates in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion leadership and implementation and Nonprofit Management, as well as expertise spanning social impact, culture building, and community engagement, Ro brings a comprehensive approach to partnership development that centers equity and collaboration. Throughout her career, Ro has demonstrated skill in leading diverse teams—from local grassroots efforts to national and international initiatives. Kara Wentworth, PhD, is an impact strategist and evaluator specializing in creative, community-centered systems for measuring how media, arts, and civic programs strengthen communities. She led impact research at Twin Cities PBS (TPT) in Minneapolis as a Mellon Foundation Public Fellow and Managing Director of Impact Strategy, using qualitative methods and community engagement to track how journalism and public media build social connection, cultural voice, and civic capacity.

Kara combines scholarly training (PhD in Communication) with hands-on evaluation practice, designing systems, coaching nonprofit teams, and integrating unconventional measures like arts-based indicators and story-based outcomes. Since 2021, she has served as Executive Director of The Nonprofit Center, leading a staff of 8 and consultant community of over 70. Through her consulting practice, she works with nonprofits across the upper Midwest and Northeast on leadership development, collective-impact strategies, and evaluation capacity-building.

Diane Yentel (She/Her/Hers) | President & CEO, National Council of Nonprofits

Diane Yentel is president and CEO of the National Council of Nonprofits, the largest network of nonprofit organizations in North America. Since joining NCN in January 2025, Diane has been a leading national advocate and thought leader for the nonprofit sector. Under Diane’s leadership, NCN has filed four landmark lawsuits to protect nonprofit funding and programs, achieved significant public policy wins, launched a major national narrative campaign to build public support for the vital work of nonprofits, doubled its team, and expended its network.

Diane has spent the entirety of her nearly 30-year career working for, with, and in support of nonprofits. Prior to joining NCN, Diane was President and CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition for 9 years, leading multiple national campaigns to historic success. Diane has also held leadership roles at Enterprise Community Partners and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and worked to advance equitable public policies with Oxfam America and the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. Diane also served over 3 years as a community development Peace Corps volunteer in rural Zambia.

In 2025, Diane was named Influencer of the Year by The Nonprofit Times, and one of Washington DC’s Most Powerful Women by the Washingtonian.
